Fold by Tomoko Fuse. Can be found in Origami Quilts under the name "Blooming Flower 2."

After a bit of hype and cloak and daggery, here is possibly my best work to date. The folding is fairly straight forward and assembly is a snap. The problem and source of amazement lies in the preparation. 11 different sizes of paper were needed, each one cut individually for a total of 132 sheets. By the end of row 6, being a fraction of an inch off at the beginning was taking it's toll. Since you gauge each inner row off the outer one, if you make even a small mistake at the start, it snowballs ALL the way to the end.

Mom is pleased with it, despite countless mismeasurements I had to cover up, and already knows where she'll hang it. I chose the rainbow colors because there just happens to be 12 colors in the packs I buy. While having all the same color is interesting as it focuses more on shape, I think the spiral effect is nice because it adds a sense of motion. For the life of me, I couldn't think of a name till tonight. At first it was some cheap shot like, "After the Storm" or "Rain Spiral." I knew it had to be something about raining and storms, having picked a gray background to emphasize the idea of a storm. I was reading ~Feantauriel's journal, which ended with a quote from "The Tempest."

When I think of a tempest, being a completely non-meteorological person, I think of a REALLY windy, rainy, nasty storm. Of course the worst the situation, the better the silver lining once it is over. So it only seemed appropriate that only a tempest would be capable of some hextupled circular rainbows. The "last hurrah" part came from a thesaurus. Couldn't think of a good synonym to "finale" and that fit the bill. It's the last stand of the wind and rain; once you see the rainbow, you know it's over.

Thanks! Of ccourse Mum is the luckiest person in the world; I am her son after all. ;) It makes a great wall hanging since it is 61 cm wide. I would love to see what you would make from this fold, if you ever decide to make it.
